The Cities Support Programme (CSP) is a programme under the IntergovernmentalRelations division of National Treasury (NT). After an external evaluation of the first phase of the CSP (2012-2018), the progrmme was extended for a second phase of 5 years, starting in 2019. This is the CSP (Phase 3) Annual Report, for Year 2 being 1 April 2020 to 30 June 2021.

Highlights for this year include securing a new team of experts to manage and implement the programme, obtaining approval of a Business Case for funding from SECO resulting in a 4 year funding commitment, completing the detailed planning for 45 support projects with a focus on institutionalisation of this support, approval of support plans for all 8 metros called City Support Implementation Plans/CSIPs, initiating most of the economic development support projects including the re-launch of the SNDB project and start-up of Township Economic Development support in 6 metros, continued work on strengthening planning and reporting reforms for metros working closely with CoGTA and DPME.
